Brian Durward

Professor Brian Durward left Aberdeen in 1973 to train as Physiotherapist at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary School of Physiotherapy.  After completing his course 1977 he worked in a number of Glasgow Hospitals before becoming Head of Physiotherapy at the Institute of Neurologic Sciences at the Southern General Hospital in 1984.    In 1985 he took up the position of Lecturer in Physiotherapy at what was then Queen Margaret College, Edinburgh.  After being promoted to Senior Lecturer and then Head of Department he returned to Glasgow to take up the position of Dean of School of Health and Social Care at Glasgow Caledonian University.    He completed a Masters degree in Bioengineering (1985) and then a PhD (1995) both from the University of Strathclyde. At Glasgow Caledonian University he was responsible as Dean for the Allied Health Professions and Social Work undergraduate pre-registration programmes and developed extensive Masters and PhD programmes for Health and Social Care professionals.  He was a member of the staff team responsible for establishing HealthQwest – the research consortium in the West of Scotland for Nursing and Allied Health professions.  In 2008 he took up the position of Director for Educational Development at NHS Education for Scotland (NES).  In this role he is currently responsible for Educational Governance, Knowledge Services, Educational Development, External Strategic Liaison and Research at NES.    His professional and research interests include Neurological rehabilitation, movement analysis and stroke rehabilitation.
