Ali Yousif obtained his Bachelor (Physics) in 1973 and D Phil (Physics) in 1979. He worked in laboratories at Uppsala University (Sweden), Rutgers University (USA) and Lubeck Medical University (Germany).He is currently Professor of Physics and Dean of the College of Science at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU). Previously he held several academic and administrative research positions including founding Dean of Postgraduate Studies and Research at SQU. He also served in many high level university management committees, including membership of the Academic Council and Chair of University Academic Promotion Committee. He has extensive experience in curriculum development and review, strategic planning, and setting up and review of academic and research regulations. During 2007-2008 he chaired the Quality Assurance Committee, which oversaw the implementation of the consultancy for establishing the administrative structure of the Research Council and the formulation of the national research strategy of Oman. As a researcher, Professor Yousif has made significant contributions to the magnetic and electronic structure of Fe-systems. He serves in international journals as associate editor or in advisory boards and participated in advisory/organizing committees of many international conferences. He is a member of the American Physical Society and in 2006 was elected Fellow of the Institute of Physics, FInstP (UK).
